THAW has multiple utility assistance programs available. Please see the choices below for one that best meets your needs.

SEMCO Monthly Assistance
Plan (MAP)

  • The SEMCO MAP offers a reduced monthly payment based on your income and usage.
  • The program will pay the difference between the plan amount and monthly bill.
  • Past due balance forgiveness.
  • No late fees and service is protected from disconnection during enrollment.

DTE Low-income Self-sufficiency
Program (LSP)

  • The DTE LSP offers a reduced monthly payment based on your income.
  • The program will pay the difference between the plan amount and monthly bill.
  • Eventual past due balance forgiveness.
  • No future late fees and service protection from shutoff while enrolled.

Families Program (iHEAL Families)

Energy assistance for individuals with health conditions impacted by the weather or require medical equipment in the home.

Emergency Energy Assistance

The Emergency Energy Assistance Program (MEAP Crisis Intervention) offers one-time assistance to resolve your household's crisis for the next 30 days and may cover up to:
  • $850 for natural gas, wood, and other fuel,
  • $850 for electricity, and
  • $1,200 for deliverable fuels limited to LP gas/propane, fuel oil, and coal.

Water Assistance

  • Offers water utility assistance for eligible Michigan households with past due balances.
  • Provides bill payment assistance to restore water service or prevent shutoff. (Shut off or disconnect notice is not required.)
  • Some households may receive energy efficiency education or be referred for a home utility assessment.
