September 11, 2026 Michigan Home Heating Credit: Deadline ss September 30th
Eligible Michigan renters and homeowners have until September 30 to apply for the Home Heating Credit and receive assistance with energy costs.
The credit is designed to help qualifying low-income Michigan households manage heating and energy costs. Last year, the average qualifying household received $171 in assistance, with payments most often applied directly to utility bills.
Some energy providers may also automatically provide claimants with a residential income assistance credit worth up to $20 per month. In addition, certain food assistance recipients who are seniors, people with disabilities, or veterans may qualify for increased benefits if they receive a Home Heating Credit of more than $20.
Who Can Qualify?
Michigan residents may qualify if they are:
- A renter with a contracted lease, or
- A homeowner
Applicants must also meet the applicable income requirements.
Don’t Miss the September 30 Deadline
The Home Heating Credit cannot be claimed retroactively. Residents who miss the September 30 deadline will lose the opportunity to receive this assistance.
