Brightmoor Energy & Water Assistance Program

Brightmoor (zip codes 48219 and 48223) residents at or below 250% FPL, with children 18 and under living in the household, and who meet additional eligibility criteria may apply for assistance through the Brightmoor Utility Assistance Program.

You are eligible for support from this program if:

• The applicant must reside in the following zip code areas: 48219 or 48223
• The applicant’s household income must be at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level
• The applicant must have at least ONE child (18 years or under) in the home;
  • Proof of at least ONE minor child is required (shot record, birth certificate, report card)
• The utility account must be in the applicant’s name; if not, the applicant must accept responsibility for the bill
• Proof of residency and responsibility for water account holder/applicant (copy of deed/mortgage statement with name of applicant listed, lease agreement that shows applicant is responsible for water payments
• Account must be residential (not a commercial account)
• Applicant must pay for unauthorized usage and security fees
• Account must have a past due balance

The following documents must be submitted with the application.

• Completed and signed Application.
• Applicant must provide a current Michigan driver’s license or State photo ID
• Applicant must provide a copy of the applicant’s Social Security card AND Social Security numbers for all other household members
• Applicant must provide a current DTE bill and/or DWSD water bill (or printout from the water department)
• Proof of income for the last 30 days, i.e., pension, pay stubs, SSI, Social Security, FIP, child support, worker’s compensation, alimony, and self-employment

Due to an overwhelming response in application volume. THAW is currently not accepting any new applications (includes mail, in person, or online).
